Visit to Itanagar to review the Up-Scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme in Partnership with Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh (29th – 31th May 2022)

NDMA officals has visited Department of Disaster Management, Arunachal Pradesh Secretariat, Itanagar on 30th May, 2022 and met Secretary, Disaster Management Dani Salu and discussed various  issues on implementation of AAPDA Mitra scheme in Arunachal Pradesh. Salu briefed about the status of implementation of AAPDA Mitra Project in the state and also shared some of the success stories involving volunteers during the recent landslides in the state capital. Further, he mentioned the role of social media in better disaster management. 

Visit to training centre at Lekhi village (30th May,2022)

NDMA official Visited the training centre at Lekhi village where 55 volunteers from Itanagar Capital Region and Papum Pare are presently undergoing the 12 days training programme on Disaster Response under AAPDA Mitra Scheme and interacted with volunteers who had already undergone training and with resources persons from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), District Disaster Management Officers etc. 

Ms. Jogam Angu, DDMO and in-charge of AAPDA Mitra scheme presented the status of the project in the state and also briefed about the various issues faced during the implementation of the project.

Shri Jimmy Chiram, SP Capital & Nodal Officer (SDRF) briefed about the strength of SDRF in Arunachal Pradesh, resources available for rescue, and also various activities undertaken in training and capacity building.

Ms Moromi Dodum Sonam, DDMO, Itanagar Capital Region shared success stories of the volunteers trained under AAPDA Mitra scheme wherein they had helped in rescue and recovery during the recent landslides and setting up of relief camp in the capital city.

Komkar Dulom, Director (Disaster Management) suggested all the volunteers to be prepared for any form of disasters as the state in highly vulnerable. He further explained the importance of disaster preparedness and awareness to the volunteers. 

Displayed of ERK purchased under the Aapda Mitra scheme was also done by State Administration.

Visit to Dikrong River site (30th May,2022)

      SDMA Arunachal Pradesh conducted a flood rescue demonstration with support of trained Aapda Mitra. Around 35 volunteers were involved in the demonstration. Manual rescue as well as rescue by boat were demonstrated. Various activities like search and rescue, transportation of victims, first aid were also demonstrated.

General Observations

  • The Volunteers were satisfied with the course, the subject of expertise, practical sessions, food, accommodation and amenities provided by the SDMAs/DDMs
  • During the training, Community Volunteers were taught basic concepts of Disaster Management, Basic Search & Rescue, fire safety measures and flood rescue.
